If you've been priced out of Boston proper — or you're simply looking for more space without leaving the greater metro area — the North Shore deserves your full attention. I'm talking about Lynn, Revere, Saugus, Peabody, Salem, and Beverly. These communities offer genuine value, strong commuter access, and a quality of life that buyers from outside the area consistently underestimate.
Lynn is the story right now
Lynn has been on the radar of serious investors and buyers for a few years, and the momentum is real. It's one of the most diverse cities in Massachusetts, with a strong Latino community, improving schools, and a waterfront that is quietly being redeveloped. Single-family and multi-family properties here are still priced significantly below comparable Boston neighborhoods — but that gap is closing.
Revere: the waterfront play
Revere Beach is the oldest public beach in the country, and Revere as a whole has benefited enormously from Blue Line access and its proximity to East Boston. It's already seen significant appreciation, but compared to neighboring Winthrop or East Boston, it still offers relative value — especially for condos and two-families.
Salem and Beverly for the long game
Further north, Salem and Beverly attract buyers who want a true town feel with commuter rail access to North Station. The historic character, restaurant scene, and school systems make these communities compelling for families and long-term investors alike.
The honest case for the North Shore
More space. Lower entry price. Strong rental demand. Access to Boston without Boston prices. If you're flexible on location and focused on building equity, this is where I'd be looking right now.
